UIS: University Information System

  • 1. COMPLETE SOLUTION FOR UNIVERSITIES

University Information System provides an unfailing support for a complex management process at universities or colleges. It mainly reinforces study processes and science and research activities which take place over the entire academic year. Any person with current, future or past relation to a university or a college is considered to be a user of this solution..

This web information system has been constantly developed since 1999, when it was first implemented at Mendel University in Brno. Nowadays, more than a 133,000 users at fourteen universities and colleges both in the Czech and Slovak Republics make use of its applications. Over the years, the system has been developed to provide support for eLearning, administration of dormitory accommodation, document services or business center.

  • 2. STUDY ADMINISTRATION

The solution to many study administration problems is the primary focus of the information system. Its everyday users are both students making use of the applications in the Student's Portal, where they can organize their studies themselves, and teachers who employ the complex application called My Lectures in order to organize their courses, classes, seminars and lab practices, examinations or tutoring of eLearning classes.

However, the most common user of the information system has been and will be the Study Department officer. The most popular agendas among them are the fully automated study financing module, creating ECTS catalogues, benefits payouts, mass print of outcome documents or electronic testing in admission procedure. Automatic submission of all data to government organizations and other institutions is an integral part.

  • 3. SUPPORT FOR SCIENCE AND RESEARCH

Science and research are other major activities at universities and colleges. However, the administration resulting from the legislation and rules stipulated by the government, universities and grant agencies seriously overloads the researchers. Our information system alleviates all the administrative tasks related to project management, recording publications and other science and research outcomes, creating professional resumes or arranging collections of publications by the research team or department

All the data prepared by a researcher are checked by the relevant departments, which then submit it directly to the governmental or other relevant agencies. No matter if you create RIV, submit CREPČ or carry out a project in ČEZ, the information system is here to help you. It can also run the Internal Grant Agency, inform your doctoral students about upcoming conferences and grant opportunities

  • 4. OTHER SECTORS DEALT WITH BY UIS

The information system is being constantly developed by dozens of developers, and currently there are more than 2 000 applications intended to fulfill the numerous everyday needs at universities and colleges. We also deal with other operating sectors, such as administration of IT infrastructure, editorial system, document services, mail services, electronic support for education or students accommodation at dormitories.

We interconnect various information systems, streamline administration at universities and colleges and search for ways to automate processes at universities. The outcomes of our work are accessible not only to the common users of the information system, but also to the university management, which in one place can obtain aggregated information from pedagogical, science and research as well as operating process at universities and colleges.

  • 5. WE CAN ADAPT TO YOUR NEEDS

When implementing the entire solution we always look for the best way to adapt to the unique processes of our customer and adjust our system to the individual needs at particular universities. For some customers we also develop customized applications, portals or entirely new modules of the information system. We are confident we can find the perfect solution for you as well.

The implementation process of the information system at your university starts with us drafting the implementation study, where both sides agree on the final design of the completed solution. During implementation it is our task to migrate data from the existing system and to train your key users. After several months, once the implementation has been completed and accepted, the overall solution switches to a routine operation.

ROGER: The Timetable Generator

  • 1. EASY WAY TO PLAN TIMETABLES

With the Roger application you are able to plan the timetable for the entire faculty within hours. You simply enter the requirements from your teachers, rooms and their time limitations and by a single click generate your timetable. The resulting timetable can be further easily edited right in the application's graphic environment. You can also display it in many different versions.

Roger employs genetic algorithm, which takes into account teachers' requirements, rooms' limitations, distance of study complexes and many other time and space restrictions. In a single moment, the application evaluates thousands of different versions of timetables and selects the ones which best match the entered criteria. You yourself can influence the algorithm's way of thinking and its conduct.

  • 2. COMPREHENSIBLE AND EASY OPERATION

The application is designed for the Microsoft Windows environment and employs all options of the graphic user interfaces of the desktop-like application, incl. the drag and drop function to place the individual timetable items (lessons) into the timetable. Thanks to colour coding and highlighting classes collisions in timetables, you see the problematic spots right away.

The operating principle of the application is adapted to the individual stages of timetable planning. In the newly set project, you first collect all restricting requirements and evaluation criteria, and then click on a button to generate the timetable itself. Finally, you can manually edit it and apply directly in the application or export it to the information system.

  • 3. EXTENSIVE INTERCONNECTION POSSIBILITIES

With Roger you can enter manually all restrictions and limitations and directly apply the completed timetable in the application. However, Roger can be a bigger asset when connected to the external study information system, which allows collection of requirements and limitations from teachers and at the same time employs the completed timetable during the entire academic year.

The integrated Help describes the transfer format for importing input retsrictions, courses and teachers database and the existing timetable, as well as the export format of the completed timetable. On top of that, if you are already a user of our other product, the University Information System, Roger can automatically cooperate with its timetable module without manipulating with data files.
